Fight REBNY to Save NYC's Small Businesses

Dear Tenants, Small Businesses, Homeowners, Labor Unions and Political Leaders,
It's a sad crisis unfolding before our eyes. Small businesses in NYC, the backbone of our local economy, from mom-and-pop stores to professional offices are shutting down at an alarming rate, more than a thousand a month, with the consequent loss of tens of thousands of local jobs. Just look at the empty storefronts and shuttered office buildings throughout the city, thanks to REBNY (Real Estate Board of New York) and its political cronies.
For three decades, and more so since 2009, REBNY has thwarted passage of the Small Business Jobs Survival Act (SBJSA) which would give all commercial tenants rights to negotiate fair lease renewals and protect them from being price gouged out of existence. This bill will also protect immigrants of all nationalities who have built so many businesses that give character to our neighborhoods.
The same billionaire landlords, developers and property speculators who are behind efforts to end rent stabilization, flood the city with super tall luxury high rises that cause massive displacement and homelessness, and seek a union-free construction environment, are determined to prevent passage of the SBJSA intact (not watered down).
Please review below the English and Spanish versions of our leaflet promoting passage of the SBJSA which is now before the City Council. Then take action. Call or write your City Council member now and demand passage of the SBJSA intact. Phone numbers and email addresses for all City Council members, by district, are listed on the back of the leaflet. Passage of this bill, intact, would give needed rights to small business owners to level the playing field with the REBNY real estate tycoons who feel the city is their playground and the 99% are their pawns!
Tenants, small businesses, homeowners, labor unions and ethical political leaders all need to be fighting for each other against the wealthy, ruthless real estate interests led by REBNY.
This campaign is all about protecting democracy, and transferring power and billions of dollars from the haves to the middle class and have-nots.
